Waiting List Policy

UIA maintains a waiting list when classes are full. Families who complete the admissions requirements can request their child be placed on this list.

When a Waiting List Exists

There are class size limits:
  • Early Years (EY-1 to EY-3): up to about 19–21 students
  • Grade 1–12: up to 24 students
If no space is available after application and assessment, the student may join the waiting list.

Eligibility for the Waiting List

  • has submitted all required documents for the application process
  • has taken our assessment test and received a positive result from the Academic Team
  • has paid the Admissions Application Fee (11,000yen).

How the Waiting List Works

  • Placement is not simply first-come, first-served.
  • Priority is decided by the School Academic Team using specific criteria (e.g., gender balance).
  • Decisions about priority are not disclosed or discussed with families.

Offer & Acceptance Rules

When a seat opens:

  • The school contacts the family.
  • Parents have 10 working days to accept.
  • Once accepted, the start date can be chosen within 3 months.
  • If the family does not respond in time, the seat is offered to the next student.
  • Exceptions are at the Principal’s discretion.

Duration & Limits

  • Waiting list status is valid for one academic year only.
  • If no opening occurs before the year ends, students may need to reapply for the next year.
  • A student cannot be on waiting lists for different grade levels simultaneously.
  • The list is capped at 10 students per grade; once that cap is reached, admissions are closed for that grade.

Expectations While Waiting

  • Students are expected to continue their education elsewhere while on the waiting list.
  • The school may ask for updated transcripts or invite a reassessment before the student can keep their place.
